joimax ® GmbH, Karlsruhe, founded in 2001, is a German company with presently around 90 employees in Germany and a subsidiary in Irvine, CA, with currently 35 employees. The company is the leading developer and marketer of complete systems for endoscopic minimally invasive spinal surgery.
With TESSYS ® (transforaminal), iLESSYS ® (interlaminar) and CESSYS ® (cervical) joimax ® offers a range of several systems for decompression procedures. The endoscopic Facet and Sacroiliac Joint treatment set MultiZYTE ® is designed for the effective treatment of pain. By means of endoscopically controlled procedures a sustainable therapy success is achieved. Together with EndoLIF ® and Percusys ® for minimally-invasive endoscopic assisted stabilizations a wide range of proven systems that cover a variety of indications are provided. Surgeons operate through a single small incision under general or local anesthetic via tissue and muscle sparing through natural openings into the spinal canal (e.g., intervertebral foramen).
A sharp increase in the number of studies and applications is evidence of the success of these methods. Until now, there have been performed more than 600.000 surgeries in more than 2.000 centers in about 50 countries. The main markets are Europe, Asia and USA.
joimax ® established a dynamic 3-step-concept for surgeons to learn these endoscopic minimally invasive surgical techniques. Up to now, more than 5.000 surgeons have been trained in level 1-6-courses (from beginner to master) to learn these methods. joimax ® has established this differential and the corresponding training for these levels of competence development in cooperation with faculty surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) and has brought it under the umbrella of its own academy ESPINEA ® (www.espinea.org) since 2019. This academy is now accredited by the RCSEd and as a result all courses are CME certified.
For all applications joimax ® has its own technology platform consisting of the new combined 4k camera and light system Camsource ® LED, special endoscopes, the multifunctional milling and resection system Shrill ®, a multi-radio frequency system (Endovapor ® 2), special surgical instruments for navigation with the own system Intracs ®, as well as the new fully integrated documentation system Vitegra ® Docu & Command.
The latest addition to the application family are iLESSYS ® Pro, iLessys ® Biportal and TESSYS ® TransSAP
The electromagnetic navigation technology Intracs ® enables the surgeon to navigate any instrument tip right to the target point. To date, joimax ® holds more than 25 patent families with more than 240 patents and trademarks. Further registrations are to follow.
The demand for endoscopic spinal surgery has risen rapidly worldwide since 2008 and has now reached an over 10% market penetration rate. joimax ® has achieved a CAGR (average growth rate) of around 30% globally since 2008, with the US market showing the strongest increase in the meantime.
